So you have started looking into doing a boudoir shoot. You have done your research and found the perfect photographer. One who is professional and fun and by no means an amateur when it comes to posing, lighting and photographing women, offers hair and makeup and is truly committed to making this an amazing experience for you! And you are beyond excited! Now it is time to rummage through your lingerie and outfits and start a little (or a lot of) shopping. Below is a beautiful guide to lingerie terms I found on pinterest thanks to Dana Laymon Photography in North Carolina.
This a great image to help you understand some typical lingerie terms and give you ideas for shopping. What is listed as a slip in this guide is also called a chemise.
Lingerie pieces I really love are chemises or slips and teddies which are fitted to help show off your figure. They also cover the tummy area which is often an insecurity for women. Whether you are hoping to cover up or just want something different than a bra and panty set then you should definitely look for one of these. Some come with garters to attach to thigh highs. I LOVE garters and thigh highs in boudoir images. I can’t even fully describe what is so sexy about them. Something about all the sheerness and glimpses of skin, and the fact that I can’t think of any woman who just wears them under her clothes. And they make your legs look longer! How foxy would you feel if you did wear that under your dress or skirt outfit? Hmmm I may have to just do that when the weather warms up. Also I like teddies that are high cut in the hip (which most are) because it is sexy and again they make your legs look longer. Who doesn’t want long legs? 🙂
Another type of underwear that is not listed but I love is the “brazilian cut” It is in between a thong and boy shorts and shows off just enough booty cheek. They are also really flattering on almost everyone, by accentuating the curve of the buttock. Hmm I wonder how many other terms I can use for the gluteus maximus in this post. 🙂
Ok now places to shop.
First, local places you can visit. Almost everyone has a Victoria’s Secret near them, but most women gifted in the bust department find their bras push their boobs uncomfortably up into their chins. Many department stores, especially Nordstrom have some really nice options. Next you could try some local lingerie boutiques. Here in Kansas City, that would be Claire de Lune in Overland Park, KS and Birdies in downtown Kansas City, MO.
Now online shopping. Whoa there are a lot of options out there, but I have listed a few you might want to check out.
Bella Bella Boutique – A beautiful selection of lingerie
Faire Frou Frou – Lovely modern and vintage-style lingerie
Hips and Curves – Gorgeous plus size lingerie
Polyvore – Via searching for lingerie you can seize some really great finds as they have listings from hundreds of stores. Kind of like Wanelo, Shop Style and Pinterest, except with Pinterest the pictures are rarely linked to a site that you can actually purchase it from.
Hopefully you find this helpful for your boudoir shopping experience. I hope we to get to work with you one day!
